After heroically blasting off into the stratosphere and hurling a nuclear weapon at a vast army of box office records, The Avengers has finally plummeted back to Earth. The Marvel superhero epic had its spot at the top of the box office—which it held onto for three weeks—usurped by Men in Black 3, which opened with $55 million. For a movie that cost $230 million to make, that figure will no doubt be regarded as a disappointment. But for a sequel to a 10-year-old movie that no one seems to have liked, that figure is actually kind of impressive.

Here are the weekend’s top 10 movies:

1. Men in Black III $55M
2. The Avengers $37M (total: $514M)
3. Battleship $10.8M (total: $44.3M)
4. The Dictator $9.6M (total: $41.4M)
5. Chernobyl Diaries $8M
6. Dark Shadows $7.51M (total: $63M)
7. What to Expect When You’re Expecting $7.15M (total: $22.2M)
