The previous trailer for Pacific Rim left us with a bunch of questions, mainly: Was it really necessary to build giant robots to fight the giant monsters? Why not just shoot the monsters over and over again with really powerful missiles? Why are the robots controlled by two people? Wouldn’t it be easier to have one operator per robot, that way you wouldn’t have two people in the control booth trying to synchronize their movements? And haven’t we seen this idea before in Real Steal?

The new trailer doesn’t answer any of these questions, but it does pose a new one: Does Guillermo del Toro know that Idris Alba’s Henry V-esque speech to the troops is suspiciously similar to Bill Pullman’s speech in Independence Day? If I were Roland Emmerich, I’d be on the phone with my lawyers right now.
