The previous trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained was fantastic. The new one is even better.

Beginning with an iconic shot of Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz riding on horseback across a mountain landscape and ending with an equally iconic shot of blood spilling against a cotton field, the two-minute-long trailer is better than most movies in their entirety. Between the two shots, there’s a ridiculous wealth of material: a scene-stealing performance from Leonardo DiCaprio as the movie’s villain, a first-rate soundtrack, some breathtaking shots of remote landscapes, a few snippets of what appear to be enormously exciting action scenes, and an almost unrecognizable  Samuel L. Jackson wearing an odd-looking white wig.

With Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino had the best movie of 2009. The new Django trailer strongly hints that Tarantino could also be responsible for the best movie of 2012 as well.
