Yann Martel’s Man Booker prize-winning novel Life of Pi has sometimes been described as “unfilmable.” This is because the action is mostly confined to a small lifeboat, and also because the lifeboat carries only two passengers, a young man named Pi and a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.
But if the new trailer is any indication, it looks as though Ang Lee has found a way to film it. Considering that Lee previously found a way to film Rick Moody’s The Ice Storm, another novel many thought to be unadaptable, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
Highlights include a shot of a swimming zebra and a glow-in-the-dark whale jumping out of the water.
Life of Pi hits theatres Nov. 21.
