Days after announcing that principal photography for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again was completed in New Zealand, director Peter Jackson has now released the first poster for the upcoming movies. As you can see below, the poster focuses solely just Gandalf (nary a Hobbit to be found), and is reminiscent of a simpler time, when he would roam the green, rolling hills of Middle Earth. But wait, there are storm clouds as well! Foreshadowing!

Also, a poster banner has hit the web that reveals some of the new characters, while also reintroducing a few of the characters from the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. The banner (click on it to see it in all its glory) hints at the action to come, but unfortunately, with releases dates of December 2012 and 2013 for the two movies, it’ll be months until you’ll be able to find out exactly what happens in the upcoming films. Unless, you know, you go to the library and read the books.
