The first official photo from Star Trek Into Darkness is out, and it reveals Spock and Kirk having an old-fashioned stare-down with the film’s main villain, played by Mr. Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch (who as an aside must have the most British sounding name in all of Hollywood).

Nobody knows yet who the villain actually is (the possibility that it’s Khan seems to be generating the most buzz), but in the caption of the photo Paramount lists Cumberbatch as playing ‘John Harrison’. Whether or not that’s actually the character he plays or it’s just a really boring red herring is yet to be seen.

As you’ll notice, Harrison is being held in a fancy, plastic-looking prison. However, if movies have taught us anything (Skyfall being the latest example),  it’s that fancy, plastic-looking prisons are just about the worst things ever for holding evil masterminds, so there’s approximately a 97.8% chance that Harrison eventually escapes.

Star Trek Into Darkness comes out on May 17, 2013. If you missed the film’s first teaser you can check it out here.
