Just last week, Ethan Hawke let it slip that he was in Greece working on a sequel to Before Sunset with director Richard Linklater and co-star Julie Delpy, but that the project was in an early phase of development and that there was a good chance that nothing would come of it. “If it works out, we’ll film it, and if it doesn’t, we won’t. It’s not really worth talking about. I’m just here developing,” he said.
Well, it’s now one week later, and Before Midnight has reportedly just finished wrapping. Which opens up two possibilities—either Ethan Hawke wasn’t telling the truth about how far along they were the project, or the movie only took one week to write and direct. Since the Before Sunrise movies are mainly about two people who walk around various European cities and talk about various subjects at great length, the second possibility isn’t as far-fetched as it may at first sound.
To prove that the movie does indeed exist, a still image has been released showing Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy walking around a city in Greece.
As a point of comparison, here are two still images from the previous movies, 1995’s Before Sunrise and 2004’s Before Sunset. Hard to believe that the people in the above photo are almost 20 years older than the people in the photo directly below.
