Comic-Con is upon us, which means that a slate of new footage and trailers have been hitting the web. One of the first big reveals was the debut trailer for Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful, the upcoming prequel to The Wizard of Oz.
The trailer shows off James Franco as a small town Kansas magician who travels to Oz (via tornado of course) and eventually convinces the populace that he is a powerful wizard. It also gives us the first look at Michelle Williams’ good witch Glinda, Rachel Weisz’s bad witch Evanora, and the always-welcome Mila Kunis’ so-so witch Theodora.
A Disney production, the stylistic similarities between this film and Alice and Wonderland are pretty obvious. Alice basically printed money at the box office but was critically underwhelming, so time will tell if that’s a good thing.
